Hi visitors!
This coping mechanism is a personal favorite, especially when our batteries are low and nothing seems to alleviate the pain of a bad day or week.
This activity is super simple, and you can set aside time for it each day. Whether you have five minutes before a meeting or online class, this tip is something that can allow you to center your focus on yourself and finding small pieces of joy.
Rather than the typical vision board, which focuses on goals, or future pathways, this activity is what I call the Self Board, which focuses on compiling everything you love about life right into one place. You can return to this board at any time to add more pieces or look through them. The self-board is flexible in format and can be tangible or digital. Here's how you can make them.
Digital Self Boards
Log in / or create an account on pinterest.com.
Once logged in, create a new board in your profile section and title it with whatever you choose. For me, I chose "A board just for me<3". You can also make the board private if you wish; select the "secret" board option.
Search and add any images that bring happiness to you or define pieces of your self-concept. I love Wes Anderson movies and have tons of photographs with filters that fit within the Anderson aesthetic.
Once you complete and add images, you can come back to your account to browse through everything you've added or even add new items to your board. It's that simple.
Tangible Self-Boards
Find or purchase a bulletin board of any size.
Using tape, glue, or tacks, add images, pictures, quotes, magazine cutouts and collage them onto the board anything that pertains to your happiness or self-concept.
Take breaks between, don't forget to give yourself some breathing time!
Hang the board in an easily visible place.
Voila! Your board is created!
As someone who has struggled with loving themselves, especially on the bad days, looking through this board reminds me of all the things, I love about life. When we have bad days, we tend to focus on our current suffering, and it seems as if nothing can change the way we feel. When I visit my self-board, I find renewed hope, relaxation, and tranquility from a day that gave me nothing but heartache. I am reminded of all the dessert recipes I want to try, the movies I want to watch, and the art pieces I want to create. The small beautiful things that surround us can now be seen directly.
A snippet from my own self-board, and the things that bring inspiration to my life!
